Full description
This Colca Canyon 3 Day Trek is recommended over the 2 day option because it gives you more time to enjoy the views and take photos. The trail includes downhill, flat, and uphill sections, with altitudes ranging from 1900 to 3300 meters above sea level. If you’ve already spent time in Arequipa, Puno, or Cusco, you should be well acclimated.
On Day 1, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Arequipa around 3:00 a.m. and drive for about 4 hours to Chivay, where we’ll have breakfast. Then, we’ll head to “Condor’s Cross,” a popular viewpoint where you can watch the Condors in flight for about 40 minutes. After a 20-minute drive, we’ll start our 4-hour downhill trek to the bottom of the canyon. We’ll have lunch, dinner, and stay overnight in the tropical village of San Juan de Chuccho, known for its lush vegetation. The accommodation is simple but comfortable.

On Day 2, after breakfast, we continue our hike from San Juan de Chuccho, passing through the town of Cosñirhua, where you might see archaeological ruins from Pre-Inca cultures. We then reach Malata, a town with an old Spanish church, and descend to the deepest part of our trek, Sangalle Village, located at 1900 meters above sea level. Here, we have dinner and spend the night in bungalows.
On Day 3, we begin our 3-hour hike up to Cabanaconde. After breakfast in Cabanaconde, we head to the hot springs to relax, then continue to Chivay. In Chivay, we enjoy a buffet lunch featuring regional dishes before returning to Arequipa. On the way back, we pass through a National Reserve and Pampa Cañahuas, where you can see the four types of South American camelids: Llama, Alpaca, Vicuña, and Guanaco. We arrive in Arequipa around 5:30 p.m., and drop you off near the Santa Catalina Monastery.
